The National Council Of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP)’s Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Course was held in Tucson June 27, 2011. Cindy Keith, RN, BS, CDP, of M.I.N.D. in Memory Care instructed several participants, myself included, in this wonderful class. We achieved insights into ways of effectively understanding the perspective of someone with dementia to mitigate or prevent difficult care situations and undue stress on the elder. Ms. Keith enlivened the class with many anecdotes from her rich experience caring for those with dementia, some of which she also details in her book, Love, Laughter and Mayhem: Caregiver Survival Manual for Living with a Person with Dementia, which I recently read and found an invaluable source of information.
